About Bright Knight Franchise
Bright Knight Franchise Private Limited is a new business in India that distributes packaged recipe spice mixes. Its range covers more than 45 products, from biryani, nihari, haleem and korma masalas to kebab, tikka and tandoori blends.
Most products come in two or three pack sizes, from 25 g to 300 g, and are traded by the carton. The business sells to distributors and runs consumer offers, flyer promotions and sales schemes to build the brand in a new market.
The Challenge
As a new business, Bright Knight Franchise had no old system to replace, but it needed the right one in place before volumes grew.
A large catalogue from day one. More than 45 products in several pack sizes, each with its own cost and selling price, had to be tracked by stock level, not just by name.
GST compliance. Every invoice needed the right HSN code and tax treatment for spice mixes.
Trade promotions. Consumer offers, flyer discounts, sales schemes and free goods had to show on invoices without hiding their cost in the product margin.
Imported stock. Purchases priced in foreign currency left exchange differences that had to be accounted for.
Stock accuracy. Shortages found on receipt or in the warehouse needed a clear, auditable adjustment.
Spreadsheets would have handled this for a few weeks. They would not scale as orders, customers and promotions grew.
The Case Study
Z-Crew set up Zoho Books for accounting and GST, and Zoho Inventory for stock, with both working on one shared item list inside Zoho One.
A clean item master. Each of the 45+ products has its own SKU code, unit, purchase rate and selling rate, with pack size in the item name, so stock is tracked per pack size.
GST built into every item. Each item carries its HSN code (0910 91 00 for spice mixtures, 0910 99 90 for garam masala), so invoices pick up the right tax treatment automatically.
Promotions as separate lines. Consumer offers, flyer promotion discounts, sales promotions and free goods issued each have their own non-stock item. They appear as separate invoice lines, so promotion spend is visible in reports and product margins stay clean.
Currency and shortage adjustments. Dedicated adjustment lines record currency differences and stock shortages, so neither is buried in product costs.
Stock and accounts in sync. Purchases and sales update stock in Zoho Inventory and post to the ledger in Zoho Books in the same step, giving live stock levels and valuation.
Training. 3 users were trained on Zoho Books and Zoho Inventory.
